Tips

Tips for working with film-faced plywood

Finishing cut edges

The top layer protects the face, but not the cut edge. Seal the edges with edge sealant or paint, especially for outdoor use.

Anti-slip for walkways

For floors that are walked or driven on, choose the anti-slip version. The smooth film becomes slippery when wet.

Pre-drill for screws

Always pre-drill screw holes in board material, especially close to the edge. This stops the core from splitting or breaking out.

Store flat

Store boards and cut parts flat and dry, raised off the floor on a few battens. That way they stay straight until you use them.

Why film-faced plywood?

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Water-repellent and hard-wearing. The film coating stands up to moisture, concrete and heavy use.
  • Strong birch core. Hard, rigid and dimensionally stable.
  • Easy to keep clean. Dirt and concrete come off easily.

Limitations

  • Edges are unprotected. Seal the edges after cutting.
  • Heavy. Birch plywood is a heavy material.

Also cut to size

Is film-faced plywood waterproof?

The film layer is water-repellent and the glue bond is waterproof. The cut edges are unprotected, though: finish them with edge sealant or paint to stop moisture getting into the edges.

What is the difference between smooth and anti-slip?

Smooth film-faced plywood has an even film layer, ideal for formwork and worktops. Anti-slip has a woven texture in the top layer for grip, for floors and trailer beds.

Is white film-faced plywood suitable for formwork?

The white melamine version is not intended as a formwork board. It is sold under that name, but it is meant for uses such as commercial fit-outs and walls.

Can I also order full boards?

Yes, you can also add film-faced plywood up to 3100 × 1530 mm to your cutting list as a full board.

How do I order film-faced plywood cut to size?

Choose the board and thickness, enter your net dimensions and quantities in the cutting list, and you'll instantly see the cutting layout and the price. Pay securely with iDEAL, Bancontact or credit card. The delivery time is approx. 2 weeks.

What are the minimum and maximum sizes?

Parts must be at least 25 mm, and the short side can be at most 1,500 mm. The maximum length is the length of the board.
