Types

Two cores, the same decor

Most decors are available on both a chipboard and an MDF core. The decor and edge banding are the same; the core determines how the panel behaves.

  • Melamine-faced chipboard

The most popular base for cabinets, shelves and surrounds. Light, stable and affordable.

Finishing

Edge banding: the finish that makes the difference

A sawn edge shows the core. Edge banding in the same colour as the decor turns a panel into a finished furniture component. We apply the banding by machine: tight, straight and durably bonded.

Colour

Every decor comes with matching edge banding, including wood decors and textures.

Thickness

1 mm for sides, 2 mm for fronts. Matt and high-gloss boards get 1 mm.

Dimensions

You enter the finished size. We allow for the thickness of the banding.

Price

1 mm €4.84 and 2 mm €7.26 per metre, incl. VAT.

Tips

Tips for working with furniture panels

Mind the grain direction

On wood decors, the grain runs along the length of the board. In the cutting list, the grain direction is set to length by default: enter the length of a part in the direction you want the grain to run. You can also choose width or free rotation for each part.

Pre-drill for screws

Always pre-drill screw holes in board material, especially close to the edge. This stops the core from splitting or breaking out.

Fragile corners and edges

The corners and edges of cut panels are fragile. Lift panels when unpacking and don't slide them over each other.

Finished sizes

Each part comes out exactly the size you enter. Edge banding of 1 or 2 mm is already allowed for, so you don't need to deduct anything for it yourself.

Why furniture panels?

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Ready to assemble. Cut, edge-banded and labelled per part. No primer, lacquer or sanding.
  • Hard-wearing surface. Stands up to everyday use and is easy to clean.
  • Huge choice. Plain colours, wood, stone and textures in one order.

Limitations

  • Not meant for lacquering. Want to paint it yourself? Then choose MDF with primer foil.
  • Edges need finishing. An edge without edge banding shows the core.

Also cut to size

What is the difference between melamine-faced chipboard and MDF?

The decor is the same; the core is different. Chipboard is lighter and more affordable, which makes it the standard choice for cabinets and shelves. MDF has a finer, denser core: the edges come out crisper and the panel is easier to mill, which is especially useful for fronts.

Which edge banding do I get?

Every decor comes with matching edge banding in the same colour and texture. You choose 1 or 2 mm per side. Matt and high-gloss boards get 1 mm. A thin band is enough for side edges; for fronts and the front edges of shelves you will usually choose 2 mm.

Where is edge banding needed?

Always on front edges and fronts, and on side edges that will be visible. Shelves usually only get banding on the front edge. Back edges and edges that sit against a wall or another panel don't need banding.

Can I paint or lacquer melamine-faced panels?

We advise against it: paint doesn't adhere well to melamine. If you want to finish it yourself, choose MDF with primer foil.

How do I order furniture panels cut to size?

Choose the board and thickness, enter your net dimensions and quantities in the cutting list, and you'll instantly see the cutting layout and the price. Pay securely with iDEAL, Bancontact or credit card. The delivery time is approx. 2 weeks.

What are the minimum and maximum sizes?

Parts must be at least 25 mm, and the short side can be at most 1,500 mm. The maximum length is the length of the board.
