Tips

Tips for working with chipboard

Choose MR where there's moisture

Ordinary chipboard swells when it gets wet. In damp rooms, moisture-resistant chipboard is the right choice.

Pre-drill for screws

Always pre-drill screw holes in board material, especially close to the edge. This stops the core from splitting or breaking out.

Use chipboard screws

Chipboard screws with a coarse thread hold best. Don't screw too close to the edge.

Saw cut and offcuts

A 4.5 mm saw cut is lost between parts. The configurator allows for this automatically and arranges your parts on the board as efficiently as possible.

Why chipboard?

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Affordable. The most economical board per m².
  • Flat and stable. Barely moves and stays straight.
  • Many thicknesses. From thin back panels to sturdy tops.

Limitations

  • Not for outdoor use. Even moisture-resistant chipboard is intended for indoor use.
  • Weaker edges. Screws hold less well in the edge than they do in plywood.

Also cut to size

What does E1 mean?

E1 is the European emission class for formaldehyde. E1 boards have low emissions and are suitable for indoor use.

What is the difference between chipboard and MDF?

Chipboard is made from coarser wood chips and is lighter and more affordable. MDF is pressed from fine fibres; it is more uniform, easier to mill and gives a better paint finish.

Can chipboard have edge banding?

We supply uncoated chipboard without edge banding. If you want finished edges, choose melamine-faced chipboard with matching edge banding.

Can I also order full boards?

Yes, you can also add chipboard up to 3100 × 1530 mm to your cutting list as a full board.

How do I order chipboard cut to size?

Choose the board and thickness, enter your net dimensions and quantities in the cutting list, and you'll instantly see the cutting layout and the price. Pay securely with iDEAL, Bancontact or credit card. The delivery time is approx. 2 weeks.

What are the minimum and maximum sizes?

Parts must be at least 25 mm, and the short side can be at most 1,500 mm. The maximum length is the length of the board.
